Your Children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you. And though they are with you they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their thoughts dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. Kahlil Gibran

Empty Bowls

A few weeks ago it was seasonably cold...
and then got unseasonably warm. So much so that it confused my rhododendron bush and it started to bloom with ice on the ground.
During this time we went to a special event called Empty Bowls to benefit our local food shelf. Niko's 5th grade class in conjunction with the art teacher made ceramic bowls along with the local college students. These were donated and used for a soup dinner. Everyone got to pick a beautiful handmade bowl to eat their soup in and then take it home as part of the meal ticket price.

This is Niko's beautiful bowl.
Here he is with this art teacher and an assistant in his classroom.
I picked a bowl with holes in the top...kind of cool.
Niko had an amazing time and commented on how much he really enjoyed the evening. He enjoyed being a featured artist; participating in an important fund-raising event and seeing some of his friends and families and eating with his own family.
