Your Children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you. And though they are with you they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their thoughts dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. Kahlil Gibran

Second Child

Willow had to go to Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington Vermont for more kidney testing. We need to see if she has outgrown her reflux, which I doubt given her UTI in Jackson Hole at the beginning of the summer. We go back at the end of the month to go through another VCUG and then there may possibly be surgery. On this particular day she just had a kidney ultrasound which was pretty easy but everything involving hospitals makes for a full day not to mention the travel to get there. We found ourselves tired by the end of the day; it was very hot and humid; and Willow hadn't napped. While driving to our favorite Vietnamese Restaurant to get takeout to eat on the ferry ride home, we decided Willow needed more food.

If she were our first child, I would have climbed over the seat and spoon fed her the potato salad to make sure she got each morsel and that the car didn't suffer from mayonnaise spills. Despite how tired and hungry I was, I would have wiped and packed up before eating my own meal.

Since Willow is our second child, Paul came up with a plan to put a fabric grocery bag on her lap as a large bib and give her the potato salad to serve up herself while we drove. I had second thoughts but my weariness won out.

She's gotten so big! They grow too fast. She's beautiful even with potato salad all over her.
