Your Children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you. And though they are with you they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their thoughts dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. Kahlil Gibran

Road Trip to Banff: fries & shakes

We decided to take a road trip to Canmore Alberta Canada to watch Bill Martin pro-solo race in the 24 hour World Cup international mountain bike race. This is a dream Bill has worked hard for and Paul really wanted to witness Bill's inspirational ride in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. Niko is pumped after watching a documentary about another pro racer who is a 7 times (I believe) winner of the 24 hour World Cup race. My only hesitancy was the 10 hour drive (with stops) with Willow in the back seat but never having seen the Canadian Rockies won me over as well as Paul and Niko's enthusiasm. Bill begins racing at noon Saturday the 25th and ends noon the 26th. Yuppie (as Willow says), Bill races the entire race alone and through the night with a headlamp with basically minute long pit stops...some say this is crazy. There is a certain energy to watching people push themselves to the point they never thought possible. We wish Bill well.

Our first stop was St. Ignatius, MT. The little drive through restaurant is where Paul would always stop after hiking in the Missions if he made it down before closing. The family size fries and fresh banana milkshakes are incredible. We don't know the name of the place but it is retro with drive-in movie type ordering and then a wait to be called to the window. The last time I was in Montana I craved the their milkshakes the entire drive up to be told they were out of bananas! I've been thinking a few fresh huckleberries might even improve on perfection.
Willow thought the shake was pretty good, but her junk food cravings are greasy and salty.
No Papa, we didn't get huckleberry ice cream across the street.

Before getting back into the car, Willow and Niko had a sword fight with some willow branches.
Add ImageNiko spent much of the time in the backseat making physical representations of his inventions using clay his teacher gave him for the trip to Canada. He really enjoys working with his dyslexia teacher.
No, Willow was not settling down for a nap. No such luck. She just wanted sleeping materials piled up on her for fun.
Sleep didn't come for a very long time.
